Presentation Luncheon at Sandbelt Hotel

The Annual Presentation Luncheon for season 2022-23 was held on Sunday 30th July at the Sandbelt Hotel in Moorabbin commencing at noon.

The luncheon was well attended as Angling Secretary George Green and President Ian Morris presented the awards to the season's recipients as members, family and friends watched on with interest as they enjoyed a 3 course meal consisting of an entree of pumpkin soup, main comprising roast beef and pork with lots of crunchy crackle and with apple sauce and gravy, sides of scalloped cheesy potato and seasonal greens.

This was followed by dessert of cheesecake and mini apple crumble with the most popular selection being the cheesecake washed down later with the usual cuppa of tea and coffee to round out the repast. There was a door prize as well as a marvelous selection of goods on offer in the club raffle which was well supported according to ticket seller Cally McMahon.

You can see some snaps of the luncheon including some of the award winners in the Gallery in what was a very enjoyable event. Or you would prefer click on SLIDESHOW to view a slide show of the snaps. Thanks to the organisers and attendees and a big congratulations to all award winners in particular Club Champion, Judy Green and Club Person of the Year, Gaynor Morris. Gerry Toohey - Secretary

SEASON 2023-2024 - PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The following is an extract from the minutes of the 87th Club Annual Meeting held on 5th July 2023 which details the report made to the meeting by President Ian Morris regarding the year ahead.

Thank you for electing me this season. I would also like to thank some new executive members who join us with a wealth of knowledge, and who knows, maybe they might like to go fishing!! Gerry Toohey is our new secretary and Brendan Harris is our new Treasurer – please make yourself known to them and have a chat with them and make them welcome.
I would also like to thank the club’s new executive, for your time will not go unheeded and your comments and ideas will be most welcome.
The Club’s new executive will strive to deliver an exciting season, but we can only do this if the members participate. Suggestions on venues both fishing and social will be welcome. Please approach me or any member of the executive with your ideas and thoughts.
A worrying sign is declining members, and we must try and get some new members into the club. My aim would be to try and establish ways we can do this, and I invite members to give us some ideas. It is suggested we target young members which is a great idea. Lots of ideas in the past seem to be for a lot of effort for very little reward. I floated the idea of walking the local piers. Maybe again we make our presence at local fishing stores and street markets. Try and establish our name back out in the community. I think we need to make more of an effort for guest speakers to try and maintain members’ interest.
Whilst our financial situation is stable, we need to discuss ways of where we can save money but also deliver things that the members can see the benefit of. Accommodation reimbursements are a good idea, as is paying towards charter trips. One thing the executive needs to work out is if these continue, and other ways we can help the members.
I am looking forward to the next 12 months and I am hoping that we can get some more people attending the meetings.

VALE JOHN HEALEY

Dear Members,

It is with much sadness that we advise that our esteemed member John Healey passed away on Tuesday 18th July 2023.

John was such a character and a very likable club member. John served on the Social committee for many years and John’s supper was always very enjoyable. He was a true gentleman..

John loved his fishing and loved fishing for Luderick especially up at Bemm river which is evident by the 1 plus kilo fish mounted in the club rooms.

The club has sent his wife Monica a sympathy card and flowers with a candle.

John’s son Phil has advised that funeral arrangements are as follows:

Thursday 27th July 2023 at 12 Noon.
St Mary Magdalen’s Jordanville - Catholic Church · Address: Cnr Baradine and Bolwarra Streets, Chadstone, 3148

Refreshments will be held afterwards to celebrate John’s life at the Matthew Flinders Hotel.

We hope you can make it.

2021-2022 Season

We are into our (COVID abridged) 2021-2022 season, and it's great to get out with members and friends again.
We have suspended our Club Championship for this season, and instead we are fishing 2 trips per category instead of the usual 4 trips per category (i.e. 2 trps for each of Bay, Estuary, Freshwater and Surf = total 8 trips) from January to June 2022

See you on the water!
